Name: Juergen Ballmaier
Sex: Male
Country: Germany
Age: 58
Diagnoses: 1.Spastic paralysis (possibility of degenerative disease of the central nervous system

Admission Date: 2011-05-24
Days Admitted to the Hospital: 34

Juergen has had a progressive weakening and stiffness in the right lower limb for more than 3 years. As a result he has had difficulty with his movements, which is more severe in the mornings. Once he gets moving, the stiffness in the right leg is not as bad. Gradually these symptoms became worse and Juergen would have to use both hands to bend the right leg and he required the use of crutches to walk. Two months ago, the stiffness in the right leg increased further. Juergen wasn't able to bend his right knee when he walked. The toes on the right foot could not be raised off the floor and he needed auxiliary walking aids. There was also numbness in the fingertips. At that time, Juergen had difficulty standing up and he walked at a slow pace. He had difficulty with moving while in bed. So he decided to visit the Wu Stem Cells Medical Center for treatment.

At the time of Juergen's admission to our medical center, there was moderate edema in the lower limbs.

During the nervous system examination, the muscle strength of the right upper limb's distal-end was poor. Juergen had a difficult time holding a pen to write because of the associated weakness in his right hand. The gripping power was level 5-. The muscle strength of the right lower limb was at level 2+. The muscle tone was high, at level 3. The muscle strength and muscle tone of the other limbs were normal. The abdominal reflex was not elicited. The tendon reflexes of the limbs were active. There was clonus in both ankles and the right ankle was more severe. The bilateral Hoffmann's sign was negative. The pathologic reflex of both lower limbs was hyperactively positive. The deep and shallow sensation was normal. Juergen was unable to finish the finger-to-nose test normally. The right hand could finish the rapid rotation test and the digit opposition test, but in an uncoordinated way. He could only point the thumb to the middle finger. The right lower limb had difficulty with the coordinated movement test. There was also difficulty with the Romberg's test.

After the completion of the stem cell treatment, Juergen was in a better state of mind and his overall quality of life has improved. There is no longer any swelling in the lower limbs. The blood pressure is stable at about 130/80mmHg. The fine motor skills such as holding a pen and typing with the right hand have improved. The right hand can now do the rapid rotation test and finger-to-nose test more flexibly. With the digit opposition test, Juergen can now point the thumb to the little finger. He is able to walk more easily and powerfully. The muscle strength of the right lower limb has increased to level 4-. The muscle tone has been reduced to level 1. The tendon reflexes of both left limbs are normal. The active index of the tendon reflexes of both right limbs has been reduced. The clonus in the right ankle has also been reduced.

After leaving our facilities, Juergen continues with his rehabilitation-therapy exercises and notices small but steady daily improvements in his muscle strength and coordination. During his time at our facilities he did, for example, an exercise lying on his back, lifting his leg up; while he was with us, he could complete this exercise about 2 to 3 times, before getting tired. He is now able to do the same exercise up to 10 times if he is having a good day.
