Treatment of MSA

Multiple systems atrophy (MSA) is a type of atrophy degenerative disease, affecting many areas of the central nervous system. The causes are unknown. As the disease progresses, motor disturbances will develop, along with tremors, balance problems, postural hypotension and dementia, etc. The person suffering from MSA will lose the ability to live an independent life within 3 to 5 years. Unfortunately, the loss of the neuronal capabilities is irreversible and there is currently no effective traditional clinical treatment for MSA.

Stem cell treatment (SCT) provides a new therapeutic method for MSA. Both laboratory research and clinical work in some degree have showed significant promise regarding its effectiveness. Molecular biological studies have revealed evidence that MSA is a kind of alpha-synuclein disease and tau protein disease. Then, the proteins become further infused. As a result, the structure and the functioning of the nerve cells and neurons change and eventually die.

Stem cells, which are composed of the same structural and molecular biological basis as normal cells, have the function of proliferation and differentiation. Therefore we can use these stem cells to treat alpha-synuclein disease and tau protein disease, which MSA is a member of, in an entirely new way.
